Brigsteer Village Neighbour Support Plan – click here to read the local plan to support any residents who need help with shopping, collecting medication, walking dogs etc during the current emergency.   You will find contact details for Elspeth, Wendy and Marion, who are co-ordinating requests for help, at the end of the plan.
If you live in the parish outside Brigsteer village and need assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch and volunteers will try to help.

Cumbria County Council and partners have launched an emergency telephone support line for those at high risk from coronavirus who need help.  The support line number is 0800 783 1966 or you can email your request for help to COVID19support@cumbria.gov.uk.  The telephone call centre will operate Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and 10am – 2pm at weekends. The service will also accept referrals from members of the public who may be concerned about people in their community.

Parish Elections 2020
Due to the coronavirus emergency, the Parish elections scheduled for Thursday 7 May 2020 (along with South Lakeland District Council elections & Police and Crime Commissioner elections) have been postponed until May 2021.  More information will be posted here when available.  

SLDC Local Plan Review
South Lakeland District Council is reviewing and updating its Local Plan.  This Local Plan applies to areas of South Lakeland outside the national parks (including the areas of Helsington parish which are outside the Lake District National Park) and provides policies on housing and economic growth, whilst protecting the environment and addressing climate change.  The Plan allocates sites for housing and other developments such as new employment sites.  To find out more about the process and have your say click here.

Volunteers required – 2 volunteers are required to take responsibility for the operation of the speed indicator device on Brigsteer Brow. The device is shared with 3 other local parishes on a rota system. Operating the SID in Brigsteer involves taking delivery of the device, recharging and resetting it, installing it on the pole on Brigsteer Brow for a 2/3 week period, then taking it down and delivering it to the next parish on the rota, currently Crosthwaite. The Community Led Plan Housing Working Group (currently comprising Cllrs S Savasi and M Cheesbrough) is seeking local people with an interest in local housing provision to join the Group.  Please contact councillors or Clerk if interested.

Lake District Local Plan Review
The latest stage of the Lake District National Park Authority’s consultation on its Local Plan Review ran from 8 April – 3 June 2019.  The Local Plan was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for examination on 1 August 2019.  Find out more about the examination process here.

District Council Elections
An election was held for a District Councillor (one of three) for the Bowness and Levens Ward on Thursday 2 May 2019.  Brian Rendell was elected to serve alongside Cllrs Kevin Holmes and John Holmes.  More information here.

Lake District National Park Extension
On 1 August 2016, part of Helsington Parish – including Brigsteer village, Helsington Barrows, Sizergh Fell, Sizergh Castle and part of the Lyth valley – was incorporated into the Lake District National Park.
