Parish Council grants

The Parish Council is able to make small grants or donations to community groups, activities or projects.

SLDC Local Plan Review

South Lakeland District Council is reviewing and updating its Local Plan.  This Local Plan applies to areas of South Lakeland outside the national parks (including the areas of Helsington parish which are outside the Lake District National Park) and provides policies on housing and economic growth, whilst protecting the environment and addressing climate change.  The Plan allocates sites for housing and other developments such as new employment sites.  Find out more about the process and have your say.

Green Homes Grant

If you’re a home owner you can apply for a Green Homes Grant voucher towards the cost of installing energy efficient improvements to your home.  Improvements could include insulating your home to reduce your energy use or installing low-carbon heating to lower the amount of carbon dioxide your home produces.  You must redeem the voucher and ensure improvements are completed by 31 March 2022.

Cold to Cosy Homes

Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) is offering free advice and practical help on energy saving, draughtproofing and home improvements to Cumbrian households.  You may be eligible on the grounds of vulnerability, health or income (wide criteria).  Apply at www.cosyhomes.org.uk or call 01768 210276.

Lake District Local Plan Review

The latest stage of the Lake District National Park Authority’s consultation on its Local Plan Review ran from 8 April – 3 June 2019.  The Local Plan was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for examination on 1 August 2019.  Find out more about the examination process here.

Community Governance Review 2018/19

District Council Elections

An election was held for a District Councillor (one of three) for the Bowness and Levens Ward on Thursday 2 May 2019.  Brian Rendell was elected to serve alongside Cllrs Kevin Holmes and John Holmes.  More information see the south lakeland district council election results 2019

Lake District National Park Extension

On 1 August 2016, part of Helsington Parish – including Brigsteer village, Helsington Barrows, Sizergh Fell, Sizergh Castle and part of the Lyth valley – was incorporated into the Lake District National Park.
